Walt leads the teams for index products and actively managed portfolios using quantitative techniques. Walt is also a member of the Oversight and Management Teams for the First American International and International Select funds and leads their day-to-day operations.

Walt began working in the financial industry in 1974. Before joining the firm in 1999, he subadvised the enhanced index portfolio for U.S. Bank from its inception in September 1990 and is now its manager. Walt was previously chief investment officer and portfolio manager at Berkeley Quantitative Advisors, Inc., a firm that he helped found in 1987. He has also served as vice president of quantitative systems at an investment consulting firm and in several positions with Chase Econometrics/Interactive Data Corp.

Walt received a B.S. in economics and mathematics from Iowa State University. He serves on the Bay Area Steering Committee for the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association and represents the firm to the Institute for Quantitative Research and Finance.
